Apply cool gel packs, cool, moist compresses, and aloe soothing gel immediately following treatment to alleviate post-treatment itchiness and stinging that may occur.
Avoid topical creams and lotions, particularly if occlusive, for five days after to limit the risk of an acne breakout.
Edema (sometimes blanching) is expected immediately following treatment and typically resolves within 24-48 hours. However, it can last up to three to five days.
It is normal to experience significant redness, broken capillaries, or bronzing in the treatment area for one to three days following treatment. This may persist in a mild form for several weeks, particularly in areas other than the face.
Debris and bronzing of the skin can occur one to four days after treatment. To encourage healing and removal from the skin, use Aquaphor or Vaseline on the effected areas twice a day. Do not pick at or scrub the treated areas.
Gentle cleansing and use of non-irritant cosmetics are permitted after treatment.
It is suggested to discontinue the use of retinoids throughout treatment. The use of retinoids during treatment may result in undesirable side effects and prolonged healing(?).
Those who are prone to acne breakouts should avoid heavy makeup or moisturizers for 4 hours post-treatment.
As healing occurs, clients should avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks following treatment. It is highly recommended that clients use a sunscreen with SPF 45 or higher containing UVA/UVB protection in between treatments, along with a sun blocker such as, zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
Those being treated should continue to use SPF 45 or higher sunscreen for up to six months following the final treatment whenever they are outside.
Once the treatment area has healed, some itching or dryness may occur. This will gradually improve and the use of non-irratiating moisturizers may provide some relief.
Treatments are 30-90 minutes long, depending on the size of the area being treated. The laser blows cold air to help keep the skin cool while the laser heats the hair follicle in pulses. Use of cool rags helps make the treatment more comfortable. After the area has been completed, aloe gel that has a cooling and slightly numbing effect will be applied.
